This procedure is the best option when there is no intended mother or when she is not able to produce eggs. The surrogate mother will carry the embryo/embryos developed for the eggs of a donor fertilized with the intended father’s sperm. Therefore the child will be genetically linked to the intended father, while the surrogate mother will have no genetic relation.
The donor should be between 19 and 30 years old. Young women typically respond favorably to ovulation induction, produce more eggs and therefore high quality embryos, increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy.
All donors must complete an extensive medical questionnaire detailing their personal medical history and family. Included in this questionnaire should be a detailed sexual history, a history of substance abuse and psychological history.
